FALLECE RAFAEL CALVENTI GAVIÑO, EMBAJADOR DE LA REPÙBLICA DOMINICANA EN ALEMAIA
Fue uno de los arquitectos más destacados del país y padrastro de Jean Rodríguez, Procurador General de la República.

Falleció este domingo en Berlín, Alemania, el arquitecto Rafael Calventi Gaviño, quien al momento de su muerte ostentaba el cargo de Embajador Plenipotenciario de la República Dominicana ante el Gobierno de Alemania.
Al momento de su deceso, el Embajador Calventi se encontraba junto a su esposa, la señora Maybe Sánchez Caminero, madre del procurador general de la República, Jean Alain Rodríguez, en su residencia en Berlín, Alemania, cuando sufrió un infarto que le produjo la muerte.
La información indica que le sobreviven además de su señora esposa, Maybé Sanchez Caminero, sus hijos, Amelia, Gina y Rafael Calventi, y sus hijastros Carlos, Maybeth, Jean Alain y Ariadne Rodríguez y sus 11 nietos.
Se recuerda que Calventi Gaviño tuvo una destacada trayectoria como profesional de la Arquitectura. Dentro de sus obras cumbres se destaca el edificio que aloja al Banco Central de la República Dominicana, el cual fue construido en el año 1978, el Palacio de los Deportes de Santiago en 1979 y el Monumento a la Guerra de la Restauración en el 1986.
También, se destacó por su gran labor como educador y por sus invaluables aportes a la educación en la República Dominicana. Cabe destacar que a través de sus cátedras formó a cientos de jóvenes de arquitectos en el país, y fue uno de los impulsores del Movimiento Renovador Universitario, integrado por catedráticos, estudiantes y empleados de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), logrando modernizar los criterios académicos de esa institución y democratizar el acceso a la educación universitaria en el país.
A raíz de ese movimiento se creó la Escuela de Arquitectura de la UASD, donde fue su primer director entre los años 1966 y 1968. Calventi Gaviño también fundó la Universidad Intec en el año 1972 junto a otros destacados dominicanos.
Calventi Gaviño, quien fuera primo hermano del expresidente y fundador del Partido de la Liberación Dominicana, Juan Bosch, nació en La Vega en el año 1932.
Se destaca que recibió múltiples distinciones tanto en el país como en otras naciones por la labor desarrollada a lo largo de su carrera diplomática y profesional, entre ellas, fue distinguido con la condecoración Caballero de Gran Cruz de la Orden al Mérito de la República de Italia en el año 2000 y con la de Gran Cruz de la Orden del Libertador San Martín de la República de Argentina en el año 2010.
A partir del año 1996 se incorporó al cuerpo diplomático dominicano, siendo embajador en Italia, México, Argentina y Alemania, país éste último en el que representaba al Gobierno dominicano al momento de su deceso.
También, fue delegado permanente del Gobierno dominicano ante el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (PMA) de la ONU y ante la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO).
