Las Aguilas Cibaeñas podrían estar al punto de cerrar un acuerdo con su ex pelotero y dirigente Tony Peña para sustituir a Manny Acta como vicepresidente de operaciones y gerente general del equipo.
Recientemente, las Águilas Cibaeñas decidieron no renovar el contrato a Manny Acta quien fue su vicepresidente de operaciones durante tres temporadas y campeón la temporada pasada.
Tony Peña quien dirigió a Las Águilas Cibaeñas en 2015, jugó su primera temporada en la pelota dominicana 1980-1981 ganador el premio al Novato del Año , luego ganó el premio de Más Valioso de forma consecutiva en los torneos 1981-1982 y 1982-1983.
En 1998 Peña dirigió a las Águilas Cibaeñas llevándolas a conquistar el cetro de campeón nacional y además la Serie del Caribe en Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela.
En la Serie del Caribe 2016 distinguió con la exaltación a su Salón de la Fama , quien reinó detrás del plato en la pelota dominicana y de Estados Unidos.
En MLB
Firmó su primer contrato en el béisbol profesional con los Piratas de Pittsburgh en 1975. Acudió a cinco Juegos de Estrellas y ganó cuatro Guantes de Oro como receptor por 18 años en las Grandes Ligas con Pittsburgh, Boston, Houston, Indios de Cleveland, Cardenales de San Luis y Medias Blancas de Chicago.
Fue seleccionado cinco veces al Juego de Estrellas (1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1989), ganó cuatro Guantes de Oro durante su carrera (1983, 1984, 1985, 1991)
Ganador del Manager del Año de la Liga Americana en el 2003 con Kansas City, permaneció durante 12 temporadas como coach de banca con los Yankees de New York
En 2013 condujo al equipo dominicano a ganar el Clásico Mundial de Béisbol.
