Es un jugador que ha bateado en el tiempo oportuno. En junio ganó el premio del Novato del Mes en la Liga Americana. Gleyber Torres, su compañero de equipo y buen amigo desde las Ligas Menores, era el gran favorito de ganar el premio del Novato del Año, después de un comienzo caliente cuando arribó a las Mayores en mayo, pero una lesión en la cadera y tiempo perdido por Torres en la lista de lesionados tienen a Miguel Andújar como el favorito en estos momentos.
El lanzador/bateador de los Angelinos, el japonés Shoei Otani también debutó con grandes expectativas, pero las lesiones han evitado ver su potencial a totalidad. Mientras en el caso del dominicano ha estado relativamente saludable la temporada completa. “De verdad que no importa quien gane el premio, yo estoy aquí para ayudar a los Yankees a entrar a la postemporada”, manifestó Andújar.
A la defensiva no estamos viendo el renacer de Brooks Robinson o del mismo Adrián Beltre, quien es uno de los jugadores favoritos de Andújar.
“Trabajé con Arod (Alex Rodríguez), quiero seguir aprendiendo a jugar la tercera y por qué no, ganar un Guante de Oro”, agregó Andújar.
Al comienzo del año, Andújar no estaba en los planes de los Yankees, los rumores de que sería cambiado por un lanzador abridor eran incesantes todos los días. Miguel siguió bateando y no le ponía atención a esos rumores. El único rumor que existe ahora es que Miguel será el Novato del Año en la Liga Americana y que será el tercera base de los Yankees por mucho tiempo.
