GOBIERNO EN DUQUESA:
En total se dispuso de 7 retroexcavadoras, 7 tractores y 3 camiones de agua. Se aportó también el combustible para todos los vehículos y la iluminación necesaria para el trabajo nocturno.
Por su parte, los ayuntamientos han aportado múltiples unidades de los cuerpos de bomberos del Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo Oeste, Santo Domingo Este y Santo Domingo Norte, con las que ahora disponen como parte de los acuerdos alcanzados con el 911. El sistema de atención a emergencias fue el encargado de coordinar la acción de los cuerpos de bomberos.
El Ministerio de Medioambiente mantiene en sitio al director del vertedero y en la dirección técnica a otras 10 personas. Asimismo, la alcaldía de Santo Domingo Norte dispuso 10 personas, incluyendo operadores de equipos y supervisores.

Es importante señalar que en enero de este año fue creada la Comisión Presidencial para la reestructuración del vertedero a cielo abierto de Duquesa, mediante Decreto No. 21-20, que tiene como objetivo definir un programa de urgencia para estabilizar la operación del vertedero a cielo abierto, mitigar el impacto de la crisis ambiental y sanitaria en que se encuentra y preparar su eventual cierre técnico.
En su primera reunión, la comisión estableció cuatro áreas prioritarias de trabajo:
- Mejorar los caminos de acceso
- Abordar el tratamiento y acondicionamiento de los lixiviados
- Acondicionar caminos interiores
- Iniciar la cobertura de las plataformas de residuos
De acuerdo a estas directrices, a inicios de marzo, la comisión técnica presentó un plan de acción, priorizando los compromisos de los diversos actores, para mejorar la operación del vertedero a corto plazo, que incluía:
- Acciones administrativas institucionales.
- Acciones físicas para mejorar la operación cotidiana.
- Acciones de remediación ambiental.
- Obras complementarias en las tres comunidades del entorno al vertedero.
- Acompañamiento social a los recicladores informales y sus familias.
Lamentablemente, a mediados de marzo, la secuencia de trabajo fue interrumpida por la emergencia sanitaria del Coronavirus. Al mismo tiempo, la crisis del vertedero fue incrementada por la sequía. Confiamos en que las actividades puedan retomarse a la mayor brevedad y el plan siga su curso.
