NUEVA YORK,EE.UU. – El presidente Danilo Medina se reunió con su homólogo estadounidense, Donald Trump, y representantes de otros 30 países, para coordinar acciones en la lucha contra las drogas. El encuentro, que tuvo lugar en la sede de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), se produjo en el debate de alto nivel del 73º período de sesiones de la Asamblea General. Unos 32 países suscribieron la declaración política adoptada en la reunión sobre “El Problema Mundial de las Drogas”, la cual permitirá tomar acciones más contundentes en la lucha contra el narcotráfico.
Se recuerda que el gobernante dominicano se encuentra aquí desde ayer, para agotar una intensa agenda de trabajo en el marco del 73º período de sesiones de la Asamblea General.
Este martes, el jefe de Estado dominicano pronunciará un histórico discurso en el órgano representante, normativo y deliberativo de la ONU, cuyos 193 estados miembros se reúnen cada año, en septiembre, durante la sesión anual que tiene lugar en el Salón de la Asamblea General en Nueva York. Además de la primera dama de la República, Candida Montilla de Medina, la delegación oficial dominicana está conformada por: •Miguel Vargas, ministro de Relaciones Exteriores. •José Ramón Peralta, ministro Administrativo de la Presidencia. •Donald Guerrero, ministro de Hacienda. •Roberto Rodríguez Marchena, portavoz del Gobierno y director general de Comunicación. •José Miguel González Cuadra, director ejecutivo de la Unidad para la Readecuación de La Barquita y Entornos (URBE). •Carlos Pared Pérez, asistente especial del Presidente de la República. •Miguel Mercedes, asistente especial del Presidente de la República. •Mayor general Adán Cáceres Silvestre, jefe del Cuerpo de Seguridad Presidencial (CUSEP). |

Esta participación de Danilo Medina constituye un hito, debido a que es la primera vez que asiste desde que República Dominicana fue escogida como país miembro del Consejo No Permanente de Seguridad de la ONU, histórico triunfo diplomático obtenido por el Gobierno, en junio pasado.
